All major religious traditions carry basically the same message, that is love, compassion and forgiveness ... the important thing is they should be part of our daily lives.-His Holiness the Dalai Lama
Jewel Tree (of Tibet)

Robert Thurman's book, The Jewel Tree of Tibet, inspired the name of this site as well as another one of my woodworking projects. In his book, Dr. Thurman, leads a meditation that asks participants to imagine a huge tree glittering with jewels. In this tree are all the teachers of our lives. For each one of us, of course, the residents of the tree differ.

I wanted to create such a tree for my altar. Something very intimately and personally mine. A symbol of tribute to all the gurus who have helped me along the path. The idea continues to evolve even as I work on the actual details. No matter who your gurus are, if they are true teachers, they belong in a place of esteem. Prominent among them should be the teacher who taught you to read.
